We are Tim Tran and Danielle Shi, collaborators in Doll Hair, an experimental press we established in 2024 in our home of Berkeley, California. Begun as a self-publishing venture, the press has published a range of emerging artists through a collaboration with the Kearny Street Workshop, while also bringing to light bilingual work by Chinese American poet Kelly Wang. Our media aesthetics approach pulls from arthouse cinema and avant-garde literary art, with influences from Theresa Hak Kyung Cha’s Dictée, Dao Strom’s Instrument, Anne Carson’s Nox, and Trinh Minh-Ha’s The Twofold Commitment.
