Chapbook press in Berkeley, Calif.

Doll Hair, est. 2024, derives from the community-offered charge at Tim’s café, as a play on the word “dollar”; his first charge to Danielle for her coffee was for “one doll hair.”

We publish hybrid and experimental literature in chapbook form. The photo essay is our favorite interdisciplinary medium to work in, and we remain open to new forms of emergent media.

About

Tim Tran and Danielle Shi live in Berkeley, California and are collaborators in Doll Hair, a chapbook press they established in 2024. They are interested in the convergence of writing and the visual in today’s media landscape, and are equally as excited about new forms of experimental literature. Doll Hair came out of a trial and error method of self-publishing Danielle’s body of personal writing, with each ensuing chapbook building on new insights. Through the process of ideating, editing, and designing publications, they are continuously learning about hybridity and innovation, while pulling inspiration from traditional forms. Influences include arthouse cinema and avant-garde literary art, such as Theresa Hak Kyung Cha’s Dictée, Dao Strom’s Instrument, Nox by Anne Carson, and The Twofold Commitment by Trinh Minh-ha, among others.

This website operates using the theme Indice by WordPress, a nod to Danielle’s Indexhibit days.
